Black women have long been depicted as stereotyped “twerking machines” in pornographic material, yet this industry is gradually adapting its practices.

On Pornhub, searches for hentai were the top worldwide trend while Japanese dropped one spot to #2. Lesbian searches saw an uptick, while MILF decreased one slot while searches for Anal rose by 1. Another rising porn category is BBC porn – big black cock porn.

Black women in porn

Many viewers of porn featuring black women find it attractive; either because it appeals to their innate curiosity about different races, or just the idea of sharing sexual encounters with someone from an alternate race. Unfortunately, racial stereotyping in porn can lead to racism; therefore it is vital we take measures to counter this tendency and reduce its potential damaging impact.

Mireille Miller-Young, an historian specializing in Black women and erotica, conducted interviews with numerous Black porn actors to analyze their roles as sexual workers. Her findings are detailed in her book A Taste for Brown Sugar; according to Miller-Young’s argument Black women use the porn industry to challenge sexual norms that devalue their erotic value; this practice she terms illicit eroticism.

She notes that Black porn stars use their bodies to gain power and status in an industry dominated by White men. Most Black sluts come into contact with pornography between 18-33, which often leads them to believe sex can be bought and sold as commodities; due to this misconception about sexuality being sold as commodities it becomes difficult for Black women to establish careers within this field; oftentimes being limited to gonzo scenes only.
