Deevia Bhana’s new book Girls Negotiating Porn in Africa takes a unique approach to exploring this phenomenon from another angle. Her film-as-text approach immerses readers into West African film industry known colloquially as Nollywood and shows how local theater video culture has been affected by Nigeria’s television/AV revolution of the late 1980s and early 90s.
